Santa Barbara Resort Lodging

Nature Lodging on the Southern California coast: Not a contradiction in terms, but a unique reality at El Capitan Canyon.

El Capitan Canyon resort is a mere 20 miles north of Santa Barbara. Located in a seaside pocket on 300 plus acres on the picturesque Pacific coast, the nature lodging experience at El Capitan Canyon was created for those who have the desire to totally unwind, relax and commune with nature.

Enjoy services and amenities typically found in a traditional resort, yet it’s minimalism without deprivation… comfort without over-indulgence. The glories of nature without the overbearing manufactured hand of man.

Experience the natural beauty of the environment in a camp-like surrounding with all the creature comforts we have come to enjoy and expect.

A return to the simple things in life that truly make us happy.

We are now open! On the morning of January 20th, El Capitan Canyon experienced a significant rain event which affected many parts of El Capitan Canyon Resort’s property. We are extremely thankful that all guests and staff are safe and no one was injured. We would like to thank all of our Canyon staff, first responders, local community and valued guests for their support and assistance during this time of restoration and renewal. It’s a new summer season! The creek is flowing, the hills are thriving with new growth and our staff is eager to welcome guests back into the Canyon!!

El Capitan Canyon after Sherpa FireThanks to the miraculous efforts of our fire fighters, we escaped any damage to our facilities from the Sherpa wild fire in June of 2016. The hills surrounding the Canyon are gray from the recent burn but that just provides a new landscape to explore! If you’d like to contribute to help support firefighters and their families, may we suggest the following organizations:
S.B. County Firefighters Benevolent Foundation
Wildland Firefighter Foundation
