Planned Power Outage
On Friday, April 21st 2017 from 8:00am to 4:00pm, El Capitan Canyon and Ocean Mesa will experience a power outage while utility poles and power transformers are replaced. Power will be out at all Ocean Mesa RV sites, the Ocean Mesa store, and El Cap cabins west of the creek. A helicopter will be used to replace the poles so there will be noise off and on during this time. We do not expect to lose power at the El Cap Market or the El Cap Front Desk.

Here in the Canyon, our staff and local experts are making great progress in their work on restoration projects throughout the property. Additionally, we are finalizing details for our 2017 summer concert series and summer activities calendar.
We will continue to update our website and social media sites with the most current information.
Once again, we would like to thank all of our Canyon staff, local community and valued guests for their support and assistance during this time of restoration and renewal. We look forward to welcoming you back to the Canyon very soon!
On the morning of Friday, January 20th El Capitan Canyon experienced a significant rain event which affected many parts of El Capitan Canyon Resort’s property. We are extremely thankful that all guests and staff are safe and no one was injured. We are grateful to the first responders and construction staff who promptly evacuated everyone on site.
While our grounds sustained significant damage in some areas, other sections remain untouched. At this time, our primary concern is the safety and restoration within the Canyon. Our staff and crews are working tirelessly to restore the grounds to their original beauty as soon as possible. As we create a timeline for reopening the property, we will continue to update our website and social media sites with the most current information.
Finally, we would also like to extend our gratitude to those in the community who have reached out with offers of support and assistance. Our Canyon staff has been a growing family over the years, and it is amazing to feel the love from our extended family in the Santa Barbara and Gaviota community. We look forward to welcoming back visitors in the near future.
Santa Barbara Resort Lodging
Nature Lodging on the Southern California coast: Not a contradiction in terms, but a unique reality at El Capitan Canyon.
El Capitan Canyon resort is a mere 20 miles north of Santa Barbara. Located in a seaside pocket on 300 plus acres on the picturesque Pacific coast, the nature lodging experience at El Capitan Canyon was created for those who have the desire to totally unwind, relax and commune with nature.
Enjoy services and amenities typically found in a traditional resort, yet it’s minimalism without deprivation… comfort without over-indulgence. The glories of nature without the overbearing manufactured hand of man.
Experience the natural beauty of the environment in a camp-like surrounding with all the creature comforts we have come to enjoy and expect.
A return to the simple things in life that truly make us happy.
Thanks to the miraculous efforts of our fire fighters, we escaped any damage to our facilities from the Sherpa wild fire in June of 2016. The hills surrounding the Canyon are gray from the recent burn but that just provides a new landscape to explore! If you’d like to contribute to help support firefighters and their families, may we suggest the following organizations:
S.B. County Firefighters Benevolent Foundation
Wildland Firefighter Foundation
